About Umananda Mandir

Umananda Mandir is an ancient Shiva temple located on Peacock Island within the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Assam. Constructed in 1694 under the patronage of Ahom King Gadadhar Singha, the shrine occupies the smallest river island in the region and draws devotees throughout the day for darshan and aarti. The atmosphere intensifies during evening rituals and festival occasions when special pujas are performed. Visitors access the temple via ferry, and the site offers traditional facilities including footwear stands and cloak rooms near the main entrance. The temple maintains a dress code requiring traditional attire with covered shoulders.
