Located in the village of Alangiri near Egra in Purba Medinipur district, this 19th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama exemplifies Bengal's vernacular temple architecture. Constructed on a high plinth within the walled courtyard of the Das family residence, the massive navaratna structure features triple-arched porches on three sides supported by clustered columnettes with Corinthian capitals and ornate stucco decorations. The temple's walls are adorned with extensive terracotta panels depicting episodes from the Ramayana, Krishna lilas, and the Chandi Mangal narrative, organized in rare nine-register arch panels. The interior sanctum contains a Rama abhisheka relief and dvarapalaka guardians, while subsidiary structures include a flat-roofed Siva dalan and an octagonal rasmancha. Originally serving as a private shrine for the prosperous merchant-zamindar Das family, the temple has evolved to accommodate community worship practices and remains a significant example of Vaishnava temple patronage in rural Bengal.
