Located in Jakpur near Kharagpur in West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district, Maa Manasa Temple stands as one of the region's most venerated sanctuaries. The temple's most striking architectural feature is its open design—it lacks a traditional rooftop, making it unique among Hindu temples. According to local tradition, the site has deep historical roots, with devotees believing that centuries ago farmers in the forested village of Mahisha worshipped Maa Manasa for protection from snakes and for agricultural prosperity. The current structure was reconstructed in 2012. Devotees gather in significant numbers on Saturdays and Tuesdays, with a particularly important special puja observed on the third Tuesday of the Bengali month of Chaitra. The temple is well-connected via National Highway 6 and South Eastern Railway tracks.
