A distinctive feature of this temple is the placement of Sri Garuda, the eagle vehicle of Lord Vishnu, directly at the feet of the presiding deity in a posture of worship. This arrangement is uncommon; in most Vishnu temples, Garuda appears separately near the temple's flagstaff. The Nallur temple is among the rare sanctuaries where Garuda remains positioned immediately before the Lord, symbolically presenting the prayers and grievances of devotees for divine redressal.

A second Garuda shrine also exists before the sanctum sanctorum, allowing devotees additional opportunity for darshan of this sacred form. The Chithirai festival, falling in April or May, includes a distinctive procession in which Lord Sri Krishna and the five Pandava brothers are carried together in a single wooden cabinet called a Chapparam.
