About the temple

Mamal Temple in Pahalgam, Kashmir, is a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated on the Lidder River banks at 2,200 metres elevation. According to legend, it marks the site where Shiva severed Ganesha's head and replaced it with an elephant's. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
