About Amarnath Temple

Located in the Pahalgam tehsil of Anantnag district, Amarnath Temple is one of Hinduism's most revered pilgrimage destinations. The shrine occupies a natural cave approximately 72 kilometers from Anantnag town and 141 kilometers from Srinagar, accessible via two traditional routes: the Pahalgam route and the Baltal route. Pilgrims undertake the challenging journey to the high-altitude cave to pay homage to the naturally formed ice lingam of Lord Shiva. The Amarnathji Shrine Board manages the annual yatra (pilgrimage), which typically spans two months during summer, implementing comprehensive safety protocols, health requirements, and registration systems for the thousands of devotees who participate each year.
