About the temple
Dakshineswar Kali Temple is a historic nine-spired shrine on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River in Kolkata, founded by Rani Rashmoni in 1855 and sanctified by Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The temple houses the presiding deity Bhavatarini Kali, an aspect of the Divine Mother who liberates devotees from the cycle of existence. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
