Located in Hanamakonda, Telangana, the Thousand Pillar Temple stands as a significant example of Dravidian architectural heritage. Constructed in the 16th century by the Vijayanagara Empire, the temple complex is built from granite and houses a central shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, surrounded by smaller shrines honoring other Hindu deities. The temple is renowned for its elaborate sculptural program, featuring intricate carvings of Hindu deities, scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and mythological narratives adorning its walls. A colossal monolithic sculpture of Nandi, the sacred bull, carved from a single rock, serves as a prominent attraction. The temple also features rock-cut elephants and exquisite engravings throughout the complex. The site has been included on UNESCO's tentative list of World Heritage sites alongside the Warangal Fort and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, attracting both pilgrims and tourists annually.
