Panchavan Madeviyar Pallippadai Temple

The temple complex occupies four acres in Pazhayarai village, near Kumbakonam. Its most prominent feature is a seven-tiered gopuram at the entrance, displaying the intricate stone carving characteristic of Pazhuvettaraiyar clan architecture from the Chola period. Within the sanctum, the lingam represents the deity, with a model of Panchavan Madeviyar positioned above it—a visual reminder of the queen whose ashes rest in an urn beneath.

The temple fell into considerable disrepair over the centuries until 1978, when the Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department undertook restoration work to preserve its structural integrity and artistic details.
