About Kalyanasundaresar Temple, Nallur

Located in Nallur, Tamil Nadu, approximately 10 kilometres from Kumbakonam and 30 kilometres south of Thanjavur, this historic temple is dedicated to Lord Kalyanasundareswarar, who is also known as Panchavarneswarar—the deity of five colours. According to temple tradition, the Lord appears in copper, pink, golden, emerald green, and an indescribable fifth colour each day. The temple holds significance as the twentieth Shiva shrine on the southern bank of the Cauvery River praised in devotional hymns. The presiding deity is accompanied by the goddess Kalyanasundari. The temple features a sacred Vilwa tree and contains shrines for Lord Nataraja with eight hands, Lord Kasi Viswanatha, and representations of the three Saivite saints Tirugnanasambandar, Tirunavukkarasar, and Sundarar. According to scriptural accounts, bathing in the temple tank confers benefits equivalent to bathing in the Mahamagam tank of Kumbakonam.
