About Naganathaswamy Temple
This temple, estimated to be between 1000 to 2000 years old, serves as a Navagraha temple dedicated primarily to Lord Ketu while maintaining Lord Naganathaswamy (Shiva) as the presiding deity. The temple's unique feature is the worship of Ketu in anthropomorphic form with a serpent head, positioned before devotees visit the main sanctum. The presiding deity is Naganathar, with Somaskandar as the processional form and Soundaryanayaki as the consort. The temple's sacred tree is bamboo, and its theertham (holy water) is known as Naga theertham. Special offerings to Ketu include lily flowers, horse gram, and multi-colored cloths, with daily abhishekam performed at 8:30 AM. The temple observes major festivals including Maha Shivarathri in February, Panguni Vasuki Utsav in March or April, Navaratri in September or October, and Karthigai in November.
