About Mahamaya Dham
Mahamaya Dham, situated approximately 30 kilometers east of Dhubri town and 10 kilometers west of Bilasipara in the Parbatjhora subdivision of Kokrajhar district, holds significant religious importance as a major Shakta pitha in Lower Assam. The goddess Mahamaya was traditionally worshipped by local communities including the Kacharies, Koches, and Naths, and served as the presiding deity of the Zamindar of Parvatjowar. Over time, the temple gained widespread acceptance and today attracts Hindu pilgrims from across Lower Assam who venerate the mother goddess. The temple's prominence in the regional religious landscape is second only to the renowned Kamakhya Temple of Guwahati.
