About Tukreswari Temple

Tukreswari Temple stands as a significant Shakta pitha in Goalpara district, Assam. According to Hindu mythology, the temple commemorates the spot where a fragment of Goddess Sati's body is believed to have descended. The legend recounts that when Shiva, consumed with grief and rage, performed the Tandava dance while carrying Sati's charred corpse, her body fragmented and scattered across various locations on earth. Each site where these sacred pieces fell became venerated as a Shakta pitha, a divine shrine infused with the presence of Shakti. Tukreswari Temple represents one such sacred location, making it an important pilgrimage destination for devotees of the Goddess.
