Located approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Chennai, the Arulmigu Kamakshi Amman Temple in Mangadu is an ancient shrine dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi, also known by the names Adi Kamakshi and Tavak Kamakshi. The temple's mythology recounts that the goddess performed severe penance in this mango grove-laden region before traveling to Kanchipuram for her divine marriage. The sacred narrative describes how the goddess undertook this spiritual practice to absolve cosmic suffering caused by Lord Shiva's playful act. The temple remains an important pilgrimage site within the Kanchipuram district and is maintained by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Tamil Nadu.
