About Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple
Located in Goravanahalli village in Tumkur district, Karnataka, this Hindu temple is primarily devoted to Goddess Mahalakshmi. The temple's history traces back to the early 1900s when a cowherd named Abbayya found a self-manifested idol near a pond and began worshipping it at his home, which became known as Lakshmi Nivas due to his newfound prosperity and charitable works. After Abbayya's death, his brother Thotadappa constructed a formal shrine following a divine vision. The temple fell into neglect around 1910 but was revived in 1925 by devotee Kamalamma, who returned permanently in 1952 to establish continuous worship. The shrine features traditional South Indian architecture with a vibrant gopuram and houses additional deities including Manchala Nagappa and Marikamba. The temple's serene setting is enhanced by its proximity to the Theetha Reservoir on the Suvarnamukhi River and surrounding vegetation.
