About Yoga Nandeeshwara Temple

Perched at the summit of Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district, Yoga Nandeeshwara Temple stands as a testament to medieval South Indian architecture and devotion. Constructed during the early 9th century and attributed to the Nolamba dynasty with patronage from the Cholas, Gangas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara rulers, the temple complex showcases multiple architectural styles spanning centuries. The shrine is distinguished by its dual sanctums—the Arunachaleswara shrine to the south and the Bhoga Nandeeshwara shrine to the north—along with the ornately carved Uma-Maheshwara Kalyana Mantapa at the center. The temple's interior walls display exquisite stone carvings depicting celestial scenes, divine figures, and guardian deities, reflecting the artistic mastery of successive dynasties. Guarded by two Dwarapalakas at its entrance, the temple remains one of Karnataka's oldest functioning Shiva temples and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India as a monument of national importance.
