About Barong Temple

Barong Temple stands as a significant example of 9th-century Hindu architecture in Central Java. Positioned approximately 800 meters east-southeast of the Ratu Boko compound, the temple occupies a hilltop location within Candisari hamlet in Bokoharjo village, Prambanan subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. The temple derives its name from the prominent barong motif featured in the kala head carvings that crown the niches of its structure, reflecting the artistic conventions of Hindu temple design during the medieval period.
