About Badhangarhi temple

This sacred temple, believed to have been constructed during the Katyuri dynasty between the 8th and 12th centuries, serves as a spiritual sanctuary for devotees from the Chamoli and Bageshwar regions. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Kali, worshipped as Maa Dakshineshwar Kaali or Bhagwati, and also honors Lord Shiva, symbolizing the union of Shakti and Shiva. Located in Tharali tehsil at an elevation of approximately 2260 meters, the temple offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Panchachuli mountains. Devotees undertake a 4-kilometer trek from the nearest road to reach the temple, with the path adorned with steps that form a spiritual ascent. The atmosphere intensifies during evening rituals and festival days, particularly during Navratri when special pujas are performed and the valleys resound with devotional chants.
