Apathsahayar Temple, Thirupazhanam

The temple is traditionally associated with Apoothi Adigal, a devoted follower of the saint Appar. According to the traditional account, Apoothi Adigal established charitable resting places in Appar's name, despite never having met him directly. When Apoothi Adigal's son died from a snake bite while preparing banana leaves for a feast intended to honour Appar, the grieving father sought the saint's intervention. Appar prayed to Apathsahayar, and according to the legend, the boy was restored to life. This narrative has anchored the temple's spiritual identity and continues to draw devotees interested in the lives and teachings of the nayanars.
