About Chandramouleesvarar Temple, Thazhamangai

This Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, with Rajarajesvari (Parvathi) as the consort deity, stands as a prominent pilgrimage destination in Thanjavur district. Located 13 kilometers from Thanjavur on the Thanjavur-Kumbakonam main road, the shrine is believed to have survived the devastating Kaveri River floods during the reign of Sundara Chola, a testament to its spiritual significance. The temple grounds feature vibrant decorations and traditional music during festivals, while quieter days offer a serene atmosphere enhanced by temple bells and flickering lamps. As one of the seven shrines associated with the Saptamartrikas (seven female deities), it holds particular importance in the regional spiritual landscape. The area was historically known as Pavathaayamangalam during the Pallava period and underwent various name changes through the Chola era.
