Odhanavaneswarar Temple, Tiruchotruturai

A distinctive feature of this temple is the placement of Murugan's shrine within the ardha-mandap rather than in a separate structure. The idol depicts Murugan with six heads and twelve hands, rendered with considerable artistic detail. The saint Arunagiri Nathar, known for composing devotional hymns on Murugan, has also sung in praise of this particular manifestation.

The main hall contains multiple stone carvings of religious and narrative significance. The shrines of Shiva and Parvati face east, with Parvati's shrine positioned to the right of Shiva's, a spatial arrangement that symbolizes the married state. The temple grounds include sacred trees—the bilva (wood apple) and rishyagandha (paneer flower tree)—and access to multiple sacred waters: the Kaveri River itself, the Kudamurutti stream, and the Surya Teertha.

The temple is open from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm in the morning and 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the evening. Visitors should dress modestly, removing footwear before entering the sanctum. As a functioning place of worship, respectful behavior and silence in the inner sanctum are expected. The temple is located at Tiruchotruturai in Kandiyur taluk, Thanjavur District, approximately 4 kilometers from Kandiyur town, 15 kilometers from Thanjavur, and 31 kilometers from Kumbhakonam.

The nearest major town is Thanjavur, which has road and rail connections. Local transport from Kandiyur or Thanjavur can reach the temple.
