About Alanduraiappar Temple, Nallatthukkudi

Located in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Alanduraiappar, represented by a lingam in the sanctum sanctorum. The presiding goddesses are Kuyiladu Nayaki and Kuyilanda Nayaki, who worshipped Shiva in the form of a koel bird. According to temple lore, the deity was originally worshipped by Surya, the sun god. The temple features a simple architectural design without a gopuram, containing shrines for Navagraha, Bhairava, Shani, and Dakshinamurthy in its courtyard. The sacred tirtha, Surya Pushkarani, is believed to cure chronic skin diseases and long-term ailments. The temple underwent Kumbhabhishekham consecration on 8 June 1970.
