About Tiruvirkudi Veerataneswarar Temple

This sacred Shiva temple stands on the southern bank of the Cauvery River in Tiruvirkudi, Tamil Nadu, and is the 74th Shiva temple in that region mentioned in classical hymns. The presiding deity is Lord Veerataneswarar, with the divine mother known as Parimala Nayaki and Elavar Kuzhali. The temple is distinguished by its swayambhu (self-manifested) lingam and an impressive five-tiered rajagopuram overlooking sacred tanks. Tulsi plants hold special reverence here, commemorating the legend of Brinda whom Lord Shiva restored to life in this form. The temple complex includes shrines dedicated to various deities including Lord Ganesha, Muruga with his consorts, Bhairava, and the Navagrahas. Devotees visit seeking remedies for Vastu dosha and ancestral blessings, while the atmosphere intensifies during evening rituals and festival celebrations.
