This Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Ramanathaswami, stands in the village of Tirukannapuram between Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity's consort is Sarivar Kuzhali. The temple is believed to be 1000–2000 years old and holds historical significance as the 77th Shiva temple on the southern bank of the Cauvery praised in Thevaram hymns. The sanctum houses a swayambumurthy (self-manifested) lingam, and devotees report witnessing a luminous phenomenon during abhisheka rituals. The temple features Somaskanda as the processional deity, depicted with Ambica moving Nandi aside to allow Lord Rama's worship of Shiva. Major festivals include Maha Shivaratri in February–March and Aipasi Annabishekam and Skanda Sashti in October–November. The temple is also notable for its connection to Sage Agasthya, whose image appears worshipping Kasi Bhairava in the outer courtyard.
