About Sri Sivan Temple
Originally established in the 1850s as a simple shrine beneath a tree on Orchard Road by Indian immigrants, Sri Sivan Temple has undergone multiple relocations due to urban development. The temple moved near Dhoby Ghaut in 1891 and came under the management of the Hindu Endowments Board from 1907. The current magnificent structure in Geylang East was constructed and consecrated in 1993 at a cost of S$6 million. The temple's unique octagonal design blends traditional Hindu architectural elements with modern construction, creating a serene sanctuary for worship. It plays a crucial role in preserving Hindu traditions through daily pujas and major festival celebrations, particularly Maha Shivaratri, and welcomes visitors of all faiths to experience its spiritual significance.
