About Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple

Located at 19 Ceylon Road in the Katong district, Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple was founded in the 1850s when a statue of Lord Vinayagar was discovered by a pond. The temple has been managed by the Singapore Ceylon Tamils' Association since 1923. Built in the Dravidian architectural style, the temple is distinguished by its 21-metre Raja Gopuram entrance tower and a remarkable musical pillar—the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The shrine serves as a spiritual center for the local community, drawing devotees throughout the day for darshan and aarti, with particularly vibrant atmospheres during evening rituals and major festival celebrations when special pujas are performed. On 7 February 2003, the temple was gazetted as a Historic Site by Singapore's National Heritage Board.
