About Sri Sivadurga Temple

The temple is dedicated to Shiva and Durga as its primary forms of worship. Shiva, also known as Mahadeva, is regarded as one of the primary manifestations of God. The temple conducts monthly poojas for Shiva, including Sukla Patcha Prathosham and Krishna Patch Prathosham observances, with annual festivals such as Brahma Utsavam and Maha Sivarathri. Durga, understood as the most popular incarnation of Devi and a principal form of Goddess Shakti, is worshipped as the original manifested form of Mother Parvati. The temple also houses shrines to numerous other deities including Vinayagar, Murugan, Dakshanamurthi, Bhairavar, Sundravalli Amman, Lakshmi, Saraswathi, Anjaneyar, and the Navagraham (nine planets).

Daily Worship and Rituals

The temple maintains a structured daily schedule of poojas. Kalasandhi begins at 6:30 am, followed by Uchikalam at noon. Evening worship commences at 6:00 pm with Sayaratchai, concluding with Arthasamam at 9:00 pm. Special Rahu Kala poojas are conducted on Tuesdays and Sundays at specific afternoon times. The temple opens early each morning to accommodate devotees, with morning hours typically running from 6:15 or 6:30 am depending on the day. Afternoon closures occur on most days, with the temple reopening in the evening. Sunday timings differ slightly, with evening worship beginning at 4:30 pm rather than 6:00 pm.

Festivals and Ceremonies

The temple observes several significant ceremonies throughout the year. Maha Sivarathri and Brahma Utsavam are celebrated annually for Shiva worship. For Durga, the temple conducts Chandi Yagam and Sumangali Poojai during the month of Aadi, along with Thai Velli and Aadi Velli poojas on Fridays in that month. Rahu Kala poojas for Durga take place weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays. Sundravalli Amman, a form of Durga, is honoured with monthly Pournami (full moon) poojas and special observances during Maha Sivarathri and Brahma Utsavam. The temple also performs Chandihomam, Navarathri, Thamarai Kudam Abishegam, and Santhanakudam Abishegam ceremonies.

Visitor Information and Etiquette

The temple is open six days a week with varying hours. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday operate from 6:30 am to noon and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Tuesday extends morning hours to 12:30 pm and evening hours to 9:30 pm, with an afternoon opening at 3:30 pm. Friday and Saturday follow similar extended hours. Sunday morning closes at noon with evening worship from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Visitors should bathe before entering the temple. Mobile phones should not be used within the temple premises. During abishegam (ritual bathing of the deity), devotees should not circumambulate the deity or temple. Visitors are advised not to position themselves between the Pallipedam and the lingam, or between the lingam and Nandi. Aarathi should not be performed with personal lamps. The temple requests that devotees refrain from prostrating on others' legs within the premises.
