Palaivananathar Temple

The original temple complex was established during the Chola period, an era when temple construction flourished across Tamil Nadu. The structure visible today reflects multiple phases of development: the present masonry work incorporates significant contributions from the Vijayanagara period, while inscriptions from both the Chola and Vijayanagara eras remain embedded in the temple walls, documenting its long history.

A distinctive architectural feature is the large circular granary constructed during the Nayak period under Raghunatha Nayak. This structure is now maintained as a monument of state importance, representing the temple's role in the region's historical economy. The temple itself features a five-tiered Rajagopuram (gateway tower) and two prakarams (circumambulatory passages). Within the complex stand shrines dedicated to Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Durga, Chandikeswarar, and representations of the 63 Nayanmars.
