The temple is dedicated to the worship of Khatu Shyam, a divine figure venerated as an incarnation of Barbareek, a significant character from the ancient Indian epic Mahabharat. The temple draws vast numbers of pilgrims throughout the year, with particularly large congregations during the Falgun Mela festival celebrated in the Hindu month of Falgun, which corresponds to February and March in the Gregorian calendar.
