About Chandraditya temple, Barsur
Located in Barsur town within Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, the Chandraditya Temple stands as a significant historical monument dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to an inscription dated to Shaka Samvat 983 (1061 AD), the temple was constructed by Mahamandaleshwar Chandraditya Maharaj, a feudatory chief under the Nagavanshi ruler Dharavarsha. The temple sits on a high platform near Buddha Talab pond and features a squared pillared mandapa attached to the sanctum. The exterior walls display intricate carvings including images of Brahma, Vishnu, Daksha Prajapati, Uma-Maheshvara, and various other Hindu deities. A Nandi idol faces the sanctum, and the temple exemplifies the architectural style of the Gangavanshi period when Barsur served as a regional capital.
