About Valliyamkavu Devi Temple

Located approximately 15 kilometers east of Mundakkayam near the Travancore Rubber and Tea Company, Valliyamkavu Devi Temple stands as a historic sanctuary dedicated to Durga in her fierce Bhadra form. According to local tradition, the temple's origins trace to the Dvapara Yuga when the Pandavas, during their exile, gifted an idol of Durga to the local tribal chief. The deity later manifested at the present location, and the area became known as Valliyamkavu, derived from the Sanskrit term for the goddess's forest passage. The temple is administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board and features eight daily pujas including morning rituals such as Palliyunarthal, Nadathurakkal, and Usha pooja, followed by evening ceremonies including Deeparadhana and Attazhapooja. The shrine is particularly renowned for the Kozhi Parappikkal ritual and attracts devotees seeking relief from various afflictions and doshas. Subordinate shrines honor Shiva, Ganapathi, Bhuvaneswari Devi, and serpent deities.
