About Tiruthandalaineeneri Neenerinathar Temple

Located in Thandalacherry village in Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, this Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his manifestation as Neenerinathar, with his consort worshipped as Gnanambikai. The shrine is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, temples celebrated in the hymns of the Nayanmar saints in the Tevaram tradition. The temple holds significant historical importance, with the place historically known as Tiru Thandalai Neel Neeri. According to local tradition, the temple is approximately 1000-2000 years old and is notably the birthplace of Saint Arivaldaya Nayanar, one of the 63 Saivite Nayanmars. The deity is considered a swayambumurthi (self-manifested form), and the temple follows the Karana Agama for its rituals. Devotees visit throughout the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere intensifying during evening rituals and festival celebrations.
