About Tirunettur Mahadeva Temple

Located in the Nettoor area of Maradu municipality approximately 4.5 kilometers south of Vyttila village, Tirunettur Mahadeva Temple stands as a significant spiritual center spanning 5.5 acres. The temple complex features distinct shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva (Sri Rudra) and Lord Vishnu (Vaikundeswara), each with its own flag mast and ritual infrastructure. According to tradition, the sage Vilwamangalam Swamiyar recognized the spiritual significance of the Shiva temple and inspired the construction of an adjacent Vishnu shrine. The temple also houses a Krishna shrine and venerates secondary deities including Ganapathy, Subramanya, Saraswati, and Yogiswaran. The architecture reflects classical Kerala temple design with intricately carved sanctums, a lighthouse structure, prayer halls, and traditional ritual spaces. The temple is particularly celebrated for performing ancestral rites (Vavu Bali) through a distinctive methodology distinct from standard practices, drawing devotees especially during new moon days of Karkkidakam, Thulam, and Makaram months. Major festivals include the eight-day Kodiyattu celebration in Dhanu month culminating in Thiruvathira, Maha Shivaratri, Ashtami Rohini, and Vishu observances.
