About Chakkamkulangara Siva Temple

Located in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam district, this Kerala-Dravidian architectural gem stands as one of Kerala's 108 Shiva temples, traditionally believed to have been installed by Sage Parasurama. The inner sanctum houses Lord Shiva facing west with eight arms, while Goddess Parvathi is enshrined behind, reflecting the Ardhanarishvara concept. The temple pond on the western side was constructed to balance the divine energy of the fierce deity. Thrippunithura, an ancient Brahmin settlement and former capital of the Cochin Kingdom, provides rich historical context. The temple celebrates an eight-day Maha Shivaratri festival annually in Kumbham (February-March), featuring religious rituals and cultural programs that draw devotees seeking Lord Shiva's blessings.
