About Thrippalur Mahadeva Temple
Thrippalur Mahadeva Temple stands as one of Kerala's 108 renowned Shiva temples, situated on the banks of the Gayatri River in Alathur village, Palakkad district. According to folklore, Sage Parashurama installed the idol of Lord Shiva during the Treta Yuga. The temple features three distinct sanctums: square-shaped shrines for Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna (with Krishna's being two-storeyed), and a circular sanctum for Lord Narasimha, all facing westward. The inner walls are lined with polished granite, and century-old murals adorn the eastern side. A large temple pond on the western side is believed to have been constructed to channel the powerful spiritual energy of Lord Shiva. Historically administered by the Kavalappara Swarupam of Palakkad rulers, the temple represents a harmonious convergence of Shaiva and Vaishnava devotional traditions.
