Mangottu Bhagavathi Temple

Local legend traces the temple's establishment to a weaver named Kuttan who attended a festival and wished for the goddess to reside in his village. Upon his return home, he discovered his traditional umbrella had become immovable—an occurrence he interpreted as a sign of the goddess's desire to remain there. The temple was subsequently established at that location. This narrative reflects a common pattern in Kerala's temple traditions, where divine presence is believed to manifest through such signs and the devotion of community members.

The temple is open daily from 05:00 to 12:00 in the morning and 17:00 to 20:00 in the evening. Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays are considered especially auspicious days for worship and are typically busier with devotees. The Annual Vela Festival

The temple's principal annual celebration is the Vela festival, held in April on the second Sunday after Vishu (the Malayalam new year). The temple also conducts special observances during Karkitkam (mid-July to mid-August), when a special Navakam ritual involving Panchagavyam is performed by the temple's ritual specialist. The temple is administered by the Malabar Devaswom Board, a public religious institution, with day-to-day operations managed by an appointed Executive Officer.
