About Sree Ramaswami Temple

Located in the eastern part of Thalassery, Thiruvangad Sree Ramaswami Temple stands as a venerable place of worship steeped in legend and history. The temple earned its popular name, the Brass Pagoda, from the copper sheeting that adorns its roof. According to tradition, the shrine was either consecrated by Lord Parashurama or established by Sage Svetharshi, who performed penance at the site. The temple endured significant historical trials, including partial damage inflicted by Tipu Sultan's forces during the eighteenth century, yet it survived destruction and remained a vital spiritual center. Beyond its religious importance, the temple served as one of the outposts of the Thalassery fort in the eighteenth century and hosted conferences between East India Company officials and local leaders, where political treaties and agreements were negotiated and signed. The annual festival commences on Vishu day in the month of Medam and continues for seven days, drawing devotees and visitors to celebrate the sacred occasion.
