About Sree Sundareswara Temple
Located in the suburban area of Talap in Kannur district, Kerala, approximately 2 kilometers from Kannur Railway Station and 3 kilometers from Kannur New Bus Stand, Sree Sundareswara Temple was established on April 11, 1916, by the renowned spiritual leader and social reformer Sri Narayana Guru. The temple's main deity is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Sundareswara, a name bestowed by Guru Devan himself. The temple features classic Keralite architectural design adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant murals depicting stories from Hindu mythology. The temple is also notable for housing Gajasamrat Prasad, a revered temple elephant that has become a significant attraction during major festivals throughout Kerala. Daily rituals including morning abhishekam and evening aarti create a sacred atmosphere, and the temple conducts traditional poojas and ceremonies following authentic Vedic practices.
