Located in Bagan Luar, Butterworth, this temple stands as a significant spiritual center for the Hindu community historically associated with the port and the nearby settlement of Kampung Benggali. The temple's origins trace to 1853 when an idol of Ambal was discovered by the seaside and housed in a small hut. In 1903, Ponnusami Pillai constructed a formal temple structure on the same site, with the first consecration ceremony held that year. The current architectural form was built in the 1980s with consecration in 1988, followed by renovations and another consecration in 2002. The temple is distinguished by its impressive gopuram rising prominently above surrounding buildings, reflecting traditional Dravidian architectural design with colorful towers, intricate carvings, and vibrant deity statues. The temple serves as both a spiritual and cultural hub, particularly significant during festivals like Thaipusam, which attracts thousands of devotees.
