Soundararajan Temple, Kadichambadi
About Soundararajan Temple, Kadichambadi
Located in the hamlet of Kadichambadi near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, this historic temple stands as a testament to centuries of devotion. According to the sthala puranam, Kadichambadi is one of the places where Lord Vishnu bestowed his divine appearance to Brahma, and the temple's presiding deity Soundararajan Perumal is worshipped alongside his consort Soundaravalli Thayar. The temple complex features a three-tiered rajagopuram and houses additional shrines for Andal, Anjaneyar, and the Alvar saints. The sacred temple tank, known as Brighu Teertham or Brahma Teertham, lies to the north and is associated with Sage Brighu's penance. Though the temple has suffered from decades of neglect and structural deterioration, the remaining structures showcase the skilled craftsmanship of ancient artisans, with granite and stone foundations supporting brick-based upper layers and finely carved dwarapalas guarding the sanctum.
