About Siddhanath Temple, Mhaswad

Located in the Man taluka of Satara district on the banks of the Manganga River, the Siddhanath Temple stands as a magnificent 10th-century stone structure built in the Hemadpanthi architectural tradition. The temple features intricate stone carvings, ornamental pillars, and a beautifully constructed shikhara adorned with sculptures of Shiva, Dattatreya, Ganesha, and numerous deities. The sanctum houses stone idols of Lord Siddhanath and his consort Mata Jogeshwari, both carved in granite. Beneath the main chamber lies an ancient underground chamber containing a self-manifested Shiva Lingam identified with Kashi-Vishweshwar, opened to devotees only at midnight on Maha Shivaratri. The temple complex includes seven stone gateways, elaborate oil lamps standing 40-50 feet high, and a mandapa housing an elephant sculpture believed to be a wedding gift from Vasuki Nag. The temple serves as the family deity for millions across Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh, and remains an important center for Shaivite spiritual traditions in rural Maharashtra.
