About Ganpati Temple, Tasgaon
Built between 1779 and 1799 under the patronage of Maratha nobleman Parasuram Bhau Patwardhan and completed by his son Appaji Patwardhan, this temple represents a significant architectural achievement in western Maharashtra. The temple's most distinctive feature is its Ganapati idol with a right-curving trunk, considered a living and active idol believed to bestow good fortune, wisdom, prosperity, and happiness upon devotees. The idol is lavishly embellished with solid gold weighing 125 kilograms. The temple's seven-storied gopura, adorned with images of gods and goddesses, is considered unmatched in western Maharashtra. The temple is also celebrated for its 235-year-old rath yatra tradition, held on the day following Bhadrapat Chaturthi, where a 30-foot chariot is pulled by devotees to the stream for Ganpati immersion, a practice continuing since 1785.
