About Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Bhuj

This sacred temple was founded on Vaishakh Vad 12, Samvat 1878 (1822 CE) when Swaminarayan himself laid the foundation stone and personally installed the central deities—Nar Narayan Dev, representing Lord Krishna and Arjuna, and Hari Krishna Maharaj, Swaminarayan's own idol. The original structure suffered extensive damage during the devastating 2001 Gujarat earthquake. A magnificent new temple was subsequently constructed on an adjacent plot at an estimated cost of 100 crore INR, entirely built from pure white marble with intricate carvings by skilled artisans. The reconstructed temple was consecrated in May 2010, preserving the spiritual legacy while showcasing contemporary architectural excellence. It remains a major pilgrimage destination and vibrant center for religious ceremonies, teachings, and community service, embodying the core principles of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.
