About Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Lucknow

The temple's main hall features an oval design constructed in white marble, creating a luminous and serene interior. The centerpiece is a 6.5-foot Hanuman murti carved from a single piece of marble, positioned so that devotees can view it from all corners of the prayer hall. The temple also houses two additional Hanuman murtis, two murtis of Neem Karoli Baba, and two Shiva lingas. The interior walls are decorated with intricate murals depicting scenes from Hindu epics—Ram, Lakshman, Sita, and Hanuman, as well as the Vanarsena (monkey army) and bears constructing the bridge to Lanka. The space accommodates approximately 250 devotees at a time.

Daily Darshan and Rituals

The temple opens for darshan from 07:00 to 20:00, allowing devotees extended hours for worship and prayer. Two formal aartis (ritual worship ceremonies) structure the day: the morning aarti at 08:00 and the evening aarti at 18:00. These rituals involve the ceremonial offering of light and prayers to the deity, and attending an aarti is considered an important part of temple worship. Visitors should note that timings may vary on festival days, so confirmation with the temple before travelling is advisable.

Festivals and Celebrations

The temple observes several significant festivals throughout the year. Hanuman Jayanti, celebrated on 1 April, marks the birth of Hanuman and draws increased devotion. Diwali on 8 November, the festival of lights, is observed with special decorations and Lakshmi puja (worship). Kartik Purnima on 24 November, also known as Dev Deepawali, is celebrated with particular reverence at temples near water bodies like the Gomti River. The temple is notably busiest and most beautifully decorated during these observances.
