Located on the eastern side of Mauritius on Goyave de Chine island connected to the mainland by a bridge, Sagar Shiv Mandir serves as a major place of worship for the Hindu community and attracts numerous tourists annually. The temple's most distinctive feature is the 108-foot tall bronze-colored statue of Lord Shiva called Mangal Mahadev. Construction began in the late 1970s with comprehensive renovation completed in 2007, made possible through substantial financial support from the Ghunowa family, who invested approximately ₨274,505,000 in its development. The temple is surrounded by lagoons and mangroves, creating a serene and mystical atmosphere. Beyond the primary deity of Lord Shiva, the temple also houses shrines dedicated to Hanuman and Goddess Lakshmi, making it one of the top three Hindu temples to visit on the island.
