About Pereyil Jagadeeswarar Temple

Located in Tirukollampudur (also known as Ogai Perayur) in Tiruvarur district, this temple dates to the Chola period and holds significant place in Tamil Shaivite devotional tradition. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Jagadeeswarar or Vilvaranyeswarar, with his consort Goddess Parvati known as Jagan Nayaki. The temple is the 231st Paadal Petra Sthalam and the 114th shrine on the southern bank of the Kaveri river in Chozha Nadu, glorified by saint Tirunavukkarasar (Appar) in his Tevaram hymns. The sacred tree is the Vilva tree, and the holy tank is called Agni Theertham. The temple follows Chola-style architecture with a central sanctum housing the presiding deity, subsidiary shrines for Vinayaka, Murugan, and Navagrahas, and maintains traditional Shaivite Agamic rituals including daily poojas with Vilva leaves and abhishekam ceremonies.
