The temple gained prominence through its central role in Thrissur Pooram, one of South India's grandest temple festivals, where it heads one of two competing groups alongside Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple, located approximately 500 metres away. Ordained by Sakthan Thampuran into these two groups, the temple has evolved into a significant cultural and religious landmark attracting thousands of devotees daily.
