About Panamukkumpally Sastha Temple

Located in Thrissur city, Panamukkumpally Sree Sastha Temple is believed to possess approximately 2500 years of rich spiritual history. The temple was established by Thekkemadom Swamiyar, who migrated from Kottayam to Thrissur and constructed the shrine at Kizhakkumpattukara, consecrating an idol he brought with him. The main deity, Lord Ayyappan (Sastha), is depicted in a rare modern temple iconography—seated in meditation on a lotus throne, holding nectar in hand. Beyond the primary shrine, the temple houses sub-shrines dedicated to Lord Vighneswara (Ganesha) and Vanadurga. The temple is administered by an elected committee and actively participates in Thrissur Pooram, with processions departing at 7 AM featuring traditional percussion and musical accompaniment, proceeding via the eastern route to Paramekkavu and returning through Vadakkumnath Temple's eastern and southern gopurams. Major annual celebrations include Navratri Puja, Sastha Vilakku, and the temple's consecration day.
