Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple stands as a major pilgrimage destination in Kerala's capital, housing an 18-foot reclining deity of Lord Padmanabha (Vishnu) viewed through three doorways of the Ottada Mandapam. The temple is renowned for its immense hidden treasures estimated at ₹1.5 lakh crore, making it the richest temple globally. Administered by the Travancore Royal Family, the sanctuary maintains rigorous traditions including mandatory traditional Kerala dress codes—men must wear dhoti or mundu (no pants), and women must wear saree or half-saree (no churidar). Entry is restricted to Hindus only. The temple's spiritual rhythm centers on daily darshan windows and elaborate aartis, with the evening Athazhapuja considered the most spectacular ritual featuring oil lamps. Major festivals include the Alpashi Festival in October-November with royal elephant processions and the Painkuni Festival in March-April spanning ten days.
