About Omampuliyur Thuyartheertanathar Temple

This ancient temple traces its origins to the early medieval period, with references in the Tevaram hymns composed by saints Tirugnanasambandar and Tirunavukkarasar. The shrine is one of five Puliyur temples associated with Sage Vyagrapada, believed to have worshipped Lord Shiva at this sacred site. According to temple lore, Lord Shiva imparted the Pranava Mantra to Goddess Parvati here, giving the location its name Omampuliyur. The temple's architectural features include a three-tiered Rajagopuram and a sanctum housing intricate sculptures depicting various legends. The presence of Dakshinamurthy within the inner sanctum distinguishes this temple among few others. The consort of the presiding deity is known as Poongodi Nayaki.
